How I work and
what I charge.
I have a simple approach to work and charges.
How I work.
For all new projects, I usually take a quick look at your site to see if I can help.
I don’t usually need to look at your WordPress admin for simple requests like tweaks to layouts or code, but for more complex requests, I will need access to check I can 100% help you before we do anything.
If I need access, I will let you know before I provide the cost of the work.
Once I have a good handle on what you want done, I will provide the cost of the work.
This is always an estimate, as some requests can turn into a bit of a rabbit hole, but I have worked on 100s of WordPress sites, so it’s not usually an issue.
What I charge.
I charge £60 + VAT per hour.
This is for whatever you need me to do: fixing a site, building a site or designing a site.
If you want me to work on a project, this is best handled by my agency, Toast, where I’m the MD (and co-founder) and have a bigger team. We will provide you with a full proposal if you send us your brief here.
If you enquire via my site, you get my £60 + VAT rate – whether I do the work or my agency does it.
If we have not worked together before, I may ask for payment up front, after I have taken an initial look at your site.
£60 per hour is pretty cheap?
That depends, but I charge for my time.
- If you want a 20-minute call to discuss your site, that’s chargeable.
- If you want me to run reports and present findings, that’s also chargeable.
- If you want to pick my brains about something, it’s also chargeable.
I balance a lower hourly rate with charging for all my time; after all, nothing is free.
You won’t be charged an hour’s fee for 30 minutes’ work, so it’s transparent and fair.
I will send you an invoice for all work for your records.
Is there anything I do not charge for?
- I don’t charge for a brief initial call or for reviewing your WordPress admin before I start work.
- I don’t charge for preparing proposals and quotes (as that would be daft).
- I also don’t charge for discussing new projects or work, but there is a fine line between discussing a project and providing consultation; if you want me to tell you how to do something, that’s consultation, if you tell me what you want, that’s a new project discussion.
