Is WordPress the right CMS for your website?
Is WordPress the right CMS for your website?
I can help you explore the possibilities.
WordPress is awesome, but it would be wrong to suggest that it’s the perfect content management system for every website.
If you are considering a new WordPress site or a move to WordPress, I can help you explore the best options for your site before you commit to any design and build process.
This can save you time and money in the long run.
You can talk to me about the requirements your business has for your website before you commission a design agency. I can help you plan functionality, explore options and create a structured and concise brief for your new website project.
Having a defined set of functional requirements, goals and targets means that you can get a more focused and objective proposal from whoever is going to create the site for you.
At this stage of a project, you need to consider far more than simply what your website is going to look like.
The design stages of any website project are often what clients look forward to the most.
A brand new site, possibly in line with new branding – everything shiny and new!
However, from my experience, far too many businesses get too focused on the look and feel of the new site, whether this is through an off-the-shelf theme or concepts provided by the branding agency.
Forget what it will look like for the moment – will it do what you need?
You need to be confident that you’re not going to get halfway through the development of your site only to find that a key piece of functionality that you required is not going to be possible or is going to cost a lot more to develop.
Websites are far more prone to scope creep than any other project, so a little time invested upfront in properly planning and communicating your requirements will save you time and money.
Do you really need bespoke plugin development?
One thing I strongly recommend is to try and avoid bespoke plugin and function development where possible.
Ok, so this won’t work for all websites, but where possible I always recommend using plugins (generally premium ones) to achieve the functionality you are after.
The reason for this is simple.
As soon as you get into bespoke plugin development, you end up with a site that can end up ‘stuck’ with the agency that built it.
You also end up with some important code on your site that needs to be kept up to date.
You increase the chances of your bespoke plugin either becoming a security risk or causing incompatibilities with other plugins.
A short time spent fully scoping out your website will save you budget.
Planning a website build or migration takes time.
Failing to plan out your website properly can result in a great-looking website that accomplishes nothing.
With niche digital services now often provided by an array of smaller agencies or freelancers, it’s more important than ever to have an overriding plan of action, content, functions and SEO.
I can help you determine exactly what your website will do, how it will work, and what content needs to be included long before you commission a web design agency to build it.
